My Project

I'm a firm believer in the following principle: doing something a little bit every day will eventually lead to something amazing. This applies to virtually any field, any skill, any technique. I don't think it can fail if you stick to it. I'll find out soon enough, I guess. I'm putting this into action.

I want to learn to draw.

I have very little art training but lots of enthusiasm, and I hope to channel that. Each day, every day, I will draw something. At the end of the week, I'll upload said drawings here. This blog will serve as a living, growing sketchbook, detailing my progress. We'll be able to see improvements at a glance.  We can also laugh at my feeble first attempts, because laughing is good.

My goal is a minimum of 20min a day. Spread over a week, that's 140min, or just over two hours. Spread over a month, that's 600min, or ten hours. That's quite a bit of practice. On some days I can draw even longer, and putting in 12+ hours a month has to lead somewhere, right?

They say a ten-thousand mile journey begins with a single step. This year, I've taken that single step. I'll try for one year. If I enjoy myself and see progress, I'll keep going. If not, oh well, I gave it my best shot.

Feel free to comment on anything you see.  Thoughts, encouragement and constructive criticism are greatly welcomed.  Please note that, "Man, you really suck, my dog can draw better than you," whilst likely true, isn't overly helpful.

A note on tags: On the right are a bunch of tags or 'labels' as Blogger calls them.  Clicking on one will bring up all my drawings on that subject.  The tag 'Pics' is for every post with an original JoeZoo drawing.  The tag 'Writing' is, get this, where I post what I write instead of what I draw.  Basically, if you want to see pictures, go for Pics; if you want my thoughts and philosophical musings on art, go for Writing.

Finally, 'Hall of Fame' will bring up what I consider my best work.  This gets updated roughly once a month, but it won't be worth looking at for a year, I imagine.
